Namhae Island - Childishness on Children's Day

May 5th in Korea is Children's Day. It's a holiday designated to celebrating all things silly, pure and immature. It's also a day that reminds us all of a time when the most stressful decision we had to make was which flavor of ice cream suited our mood. I'm just kidding, ALL ice cream flavours can suit EVERY mood (yes, even rum 'n raisin has its uses).

I booked a bus tour through Seoul Hiking and Nature Group. Warren Kim, the bus operator, is a cool dude. He lets people do their own thing on these trips, and he does a brilliant job of organising accommodation and food. He does provide his people with suggestions and itineraries of activities, but from the outset he'll always tell everyone to 'be one with nature' and that we are free to do whatever we like. This specific bus tour was jam packed with some seriously cool people.

Day one was stunning. Sunshine and good vibes. The first activity of the weekend was a visit to Boseong Tea Fields. Most of the group signed up for tea-leaf making activity. A few of us, though, climbed a hill and sat in a pagoda. After that we all climbed in some kayaks and paddled out to sea. The water was just unsettled enough that it made paddling enjoyably challenging.

We booked into our accommodation. A big group of us were put into the top-floor room. Initially we called it the Penthouse Party Place. We came to our senses and didn't call it that for very long.

Other weekend activities included glow-in-the-dark beach frisbee, a beach fire, shooting fireworks, a trip to the German Village, card games and a demonic hangover.
