Geoje's Gotcha Back with Holi Hai Day!

There's an exclamatory expression down there in the Lower Albany where a local may say 'Hell's teeth!" (pronounced 'Hyell's Teeth'). For example, a bemused farmer might laugh at his favorite Jack Russell hound being chased by a feisty bantam cockerel, and he will say "Hell's teeth, that's a laugh!". Another befuddled farmer might smell something funny emanating from his kid's diaper, but when he inspects said diaper and finds nothing there he will say "Hell's teeth, I think I shat myself without knowing it!".

The expression, presumably, has strong connections with the element of surprise. However, to bring this post to the weekend's activities, there was no surprise in the fact that Holi Hai was a rip snorting fun time. I prepaid for my Holi Hai weekend through Waegook Travels, a bus tour operator based in Seoul. I, however, live in Gwangju and had to make my own way to Geoje. The party was held on the southern side of Geoje Island, on a beautiful and tranquil little beach that saw 2000+ people turn it into a proper skop (big party).

The weekend's activities included: taking 5 hours to travel 180km from Gwangju to Geoje Island, and making it all the way there only to miss my final destination by one stop and subsequently climbing over coastal rocks for 4 or 5km back to the meeting point; 'salsa dancing' back and forth on top of a moving boat, with the rhythm being timed to the 'motion of the ocean'; lamb chop braai (barbecue); shooting roman candle fireworks at cups on the beach and pretending that we were 'hunting'; the samoosas, oh those sweet sweet samoosas; hanging out in front of a convenience store every now and again and meeting a bunch of colorful people (excuse the pun) from all over the word; singing Nkosi Sikele' iAfrika with a random dude from Cape Town. Most of all, getting to spend time, talk shit, drink beer, dance like a man holding a electric fence (ie like an idiot) and just having a good time.

Bushpeeg, in conclusion, had a great time there by Geoje. Hell's teeth!

A perfect summing up of life at a Holi Hai party.

The rocks over which I clambered when I went one bus stop too far.

Top-deck side on the sunset cruise.

Momma raised to be a good boy, but I happily obliged when 'Amy from Ohio' asked me to show her my tits for 1000won.
