A superstition in Korea is that whistling at night summons snakes to your presence. Another irrational idea I had was that I believed Korea had become way too industrious and developed for there to be any kind of habitat for snakes to survive. Guess which one of those unfounded beliefs turned out to be true?
Quick Game: 'Find the Snake'
And if that isn't wild(life) enough to give you the chills, Stevie Wonder's Superstition is here to help you out...
Other life forms seen en route included the following...
"I'm a peacock, you've gotta LET ME FLY!"
Tuesday, 22nd of May was Buddha's Birthday, a rare and precious vacation day. Madeleine (adventure buddy in the making) and I visited Gangcheonsa Temple, which is a short bus ride from Sunchang. First built by Monk Doseon in 887AD, it was burned/destroyed and rebuilt on three occasions in its existence.

The trail around the the temple was riddled with outdated maps, rotting benches, crumbling gazebos and grassy paths. It wass an escapist's paradise. There was also a suspension bridge, though navigation failures and time constraints prevented us from getting a chance to see it. Even though we didn't get to see all the things we wanted to see we ate celebratory Chicken and Makgeolli anyway.
Attempting the 'peacock' look...
How'd I do?
Speaking of time constraints, we ended up missing the last bus back to Sunchang. As if that wasn't enough, it was pissing with rain. We approached a shop owner after sunset to help us call a taxi. Unnecessary drama, to say the least.
